Events: Interns will get to put on their own events, learning how to reach out to literary professionals, advertise to our community, lead workshops, readings, Q&A sessions and more!

Podcast: Explore the realm of auditory arts via our Ad Aster podcast team! Interns will learn how to draft scripts, interview literary and visual artists, edit episodes, and write transcripts, all while co-producing their own episode!

2024 Summer Internship Cohort

Elizabeth Rotunno

Elizabeth Rotunno is an Italian-American aspiring translator and linguist based in Massachusetts. She finds inspiration in language and international literature. Working primarily with English, Italian, and French, she writes for Bardics Anonymous Literary Magazine, edits her school's literary publication, is working to establish an international sister city connection for her town, has been published locally, and was awarded Platinum in the 2024 National French Competition. Apart from international media, she is a big fan of bad romantic comedies, strawberry banana smoothies, and obscure constructed languages.

Joyce Lee

Joyce Lee is a writer from the San Francisco Bay Area. An editor at her school’s newsmagazine and an Iowa Young Writers Studio alum, Joyce’s writing has been recognized by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the National Council of Teachers of English, and others. While not frantically typing out her newest story idea in her bottomless Notes app folder, she's off reading in bed or dreaming about her time in Iowa City. She charges into life armed with an intersection of creative and critical storytelling styles, as well as a slightly problematic addition to matcha lattes.

Joudy Khaled

Joudy Khaled is an Egyptian high school senior with a passion for art and literature. She is the founder of Veracity, a non-profit that aims to encourage young artists to spread and flourish in their desired fields of art. Her love for art began with her love for writing when she realized it would be possible to delve into millions of worlds with the power of fiction. She founded her school newspaper where she is currently the Editor-in-Chief. Outside of her writing, Joudy enjoys holding deep philosophical conversations with friends and indulging in quality time by doing spontaneous activities.

Lucien

Lucien is a Hong Kong based (song)writer who loves the smell of candy stores. Besides having been published in the Eunoia Review, Iceblink Literary Magazine, the Graveyard Zine among many others, he writes songs for his studio band, Orphic. You can find him on Instagram: @delucienal_

Zara Hafeez Siddiqui

My name is Zara Hafeez Siddiqui and I am an amateur writer from Karachi, Pakistan. Currently, I am in 10th grade and will soon be applying to colleges to further complete my studies with psychology as my main subject. My main interest is in writing prose but poetry tends to come to me easily and thus I prefer writing both. During my free time, I like to eat and explore different flavors of biscuits and contemplate ways that could help me earn money. I also enjoy participating in sports activities and often find myself atop a bicycle when I wish to clear my head.

Nabeeha Sheikh

I'm nabeeha, and I believe it is a privilege I can even call myself an author. Amidst the crashing waves of insecurities, hideouts, obligations of being a daughter and a sister, words have armored me with the strength to go through it all. Cliche as it is, words act as a beacon of light when everything else is diminishing, and thus I have a great reverence for them. So, I'm nabeeha, who writes pieces of poetry and introspective essays, in order to illuminate someone else's wold as well. I try to cultivate this passion of mine to perfection, and I'm glad that Asterlit has given me this opportunity!

Naomi Ferrao

Hey everyone! I'm Naomi, I'm 16 years old, and I'm one of the Aster Lit Interns this summer. I have a huge love for literature and enjoy reading everything from novels to poetry, historical fiction to mystery. My favourite books are Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Aside from reading I also enjoy baking, embroidery, attempting to befriend cats, and watching a good Netflix show.

Jane Lee

Jane Lee is a Korean-American high schooler and writer living in Silicon Valley, California. She has been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and is a Sewanee Young Writers' Conference alumni. During the school year, she enjoys working as part of her school's newspaper and literary magazine, as well as participating in color guard and tutoring others in English. Besides writing poetry, Jane loves drinking matcha lattes and watching K-dramas.
