Aster Lit: Wanderlust

Issue 6—Summer 2022

A hazel hope

Sayani Mukherjee, India

A hazel hope a day

For a new paper flower,

To land within a new vase-

Spangled and glitchy

With shine brewing off.

A new diary too,

For a new lunar phase

Cradle with Scribbling lines

Of Tomorrows and before on

Between periphery and center

Perhaps taking a baby step more,

Rubbing till the rhizomes

Come off

Of crimson moss hanging

Against the black pit

Later lying over a

Big pool of labyrinth stream

With tiny lotus flowers

Where my purples beauties get lost too

I often dream of

The ancient brick wall of Egypt

Or the Present day Berlin wall-

A tip toed brush

A spin off finish

Told my diary,

A spooky thing

It has grown wings

To see through human hearts

All the colours looping

A crimson bliss

Perhaps no more stories or hush

But it's multilayered cadence

More towards dipping off

my brush everywhere

Stroking over butterfly face

Until it loses its own colour

That too a beautiful leap.

A fish like It keep on swimming

In different shades of blue

Reading Different books

In a midnight library hours

Wabi sabi they call it-

Smuggling away the

Imperfections

And building bridges

With gold threading.

A big dream chaser

This petit paint brush

A hypnotic realism

A big kaleidoscopic swizzle

A paycheck to postponed due

Till October comes

When streets will be

Hazel brown

A nut meg brownish feast.

I will buy another new diary

And another paint brush too.
