Eulogy Of A Revived Heart
Iman Waqas, Pakistan
The flurry of wings beats hesitance as cruelty decorates its iron fist. Graveyard of deadly desires entombed in silence. Champagne kisses her lips to drown the crimson wounds of reality. Darkness nestled like a child into her bosom. Palms engorged with the golden ichor of misfit roads. The elixir of life tastes more like god’s vengeance than a blessing. Yet the stubborn curve of her back echoed an aristocrat’s hubris as a doom-monger couldn’t charge the rebellion; the throes of war required a champion, not a martyr.
On the cusp of her death, fate finally bares its teeth. The skies bequeathing a boon. Stale hope incinerates the invisible manacles, and the wilting willow blooms again. The captive ship has left the harbor to have dangerous liaisons in honeysuckle fields. To devour chocolate-covered croissants dipped in hazelnut latte. To swimming in fairy pools at the Isle of Skye. Her caramel locks, drenched in the sweet breath of magnolias, as she lay draped in a threadbare coat of brazen pleasure.
To slumber underneath the northern lights in the snug embrace of May. Taking a heady swig of the sunset halos at Santorini. Architecture at Acropolis speckled with envy of the masses. She yearned to wield the ghost of Icarus without any foundation or stone. Wanderlust rumbled in the lining hemming this caged fowl’s soul. Crowns of perspiration flushed her cheeks with the hues of Snow White’s poisoned apple. Her refulgent eyes, the bane of Sirius’s petty jealousy. No mortal would wish death after glimpsing Elysium on earth.
The pitter-patter of pebbles scuffed her shoes as she treads bloody landmarks on concrete paths. Yet, her heart shies away from home. Fate barely hit the gavel in her favor. A match rekindled to light her way out of the phantom prison. But the torment of olden battles still singed her memory. Crescent moons hung over her body like laurels of war. Except these ashes didn’t birth a phoenix. Just a young girl with a palate for wanderlust, reining defiance of mocking jays promising retribution.
