Neon and Street Lights
Saptarshi Bhowmick, India
It was near midnight
when I opened my eyes
and found myself alone in my bed.
Striving for a cup of coffee,
I crossed my corridor, dipped in neon cascades.
Upon realizing that I was surrounded by silence,
I released the tap on the basin and started pouring coffee into a mug.
The nonchalant moon bemoaned the night
while the whole earth cradled into sleep;
the floor luminous, the air stale
and the clock ticking like a heartbeat
followed me when I went to my balcony.
After enjoying the passive loneliness,
considering the cactus in the corner of my railing,
my vision becomes microscopic-
To collect the mug, I returned with my Monotonous steps;
On my second visit to the balcony,
Countering a bitter sip of coffee,
I was surprised to find my landlady
with a guitar on her lap, playing silence
the same note, my life played that night before:
And the eyes meet-
Divided by balconies, our smiles mingled with each other.
A colourful conversation started with a frolic of nocturnal creatures,
but for me, it was as if_
The night bloomed into a horizontal flower.
shading street lights on this neon oriented life,
I wondered if she will ever fall in love with a girl like me,
retrospective of the ways of my vouch for rent there.
