Artist’s Statement

I spent the past few summers in China's rural villages, a side of China that is invisible to many. My research requires a deep understanding of the cultural differences between the sprawling urban centers (like Shanghai) and the less seen but not any less interesting rural China. These photos were all taken during my field research—inside rural households or on walks around the villages. Throughout my adventures between the more well-known areas like Chengdu and the lesser known areas like Zhushan, I've encountered a fascinating and diverse array of dialect, food, and culture. I hope to share my experiences through these photos.
