every good poem i write is about the apocalypse
Rosalind Kong, United States
as if the world has to end before i will realize
it was beautiful. in each poem, a new grief:
the birds keep singing despite the rain again &
again & again, echoing each other until they meld
into an unnatural choir. it is beautiful, it is haunting,
it is the soundtrack to a silver sunset. we are running
into the horizon, finally. every step i take is a small
apocalypse, a change, an ending: i have practiced
the steps to this dance too many times & yet i
have never once moved my feet. when the music swells
& the end credits roll, tell me you'll keep going even after
the story ends. tell me you’ll keep dancing even after
the orchestra comes to rest; tell me you’ll keep walking
even after we reach the edge of the world & step into the sky.
